  • If you’ve started shopping around for treadmills, you might feel a bit overwhelmed. There are so many on the market, by many different companies and in many different price ranges. But, with a little time spent determining your personal needs and your price range, you can quickly determine which treadmills should get your serious consideration.

The Horizon Fitness T90 treadmill is priced for the person who wants a budget treadmill for walking and occasional jogging. You’ll spend about $550 for this treadmill, so it’s affordable for almost any budget. There are many online stores that sell this model of treadmill, and many offer free shipping, which makes it worth buying online.

The motor on the Horizon Fitness T90 is 1.75 horsepower. This makes it absolutely fine for people who plan to do mostly walking. The serious runner, however, might find it a bit weak, even though the speed goes up to 10 miles per hour. The weight capacity, at 275 pounds, is also a bit less than many higher powered treadmills.

This treadmill has some of the features you’d find on higher end treadmills, which is what makes it such a popular choice for many walkers looking for a good treadmill on a budget.

The treadmill includes computer programming and a display panel that shows time, speed, and distance and resistance level. There are four programs, including rolling hills, intervals, weight loss and manual. You can see your time, distance and calories burned on the display as you work out. There is also a heart rate monitor right in the handgrips. The incline feature on the treadmill goes up to just 10%, which may not be sufficient if you really want to work your lower body. This treadmill has one of the easiest to read displays and is very simple to operate. There are also fans to keep you cool.

The Horizon Fitness T90 comes with Comfort Zone cushioning on the walking surface. This is valuable for anyone who has joint issues, and needs to minimize the pounding during their workout. The walking surface is 18 inches wide and 52 inches long, which also makes for a more comfortable walk, even for taller people. The ride on this treadmill is quite smooth when walking and light jogging.

The Horizon Fitness T90 folds away for storage. Though it’s heavy, it’s easy to maneuver because of Horizon’s Featherlite Hydraulic Lift system.

As with many treadmills, assembly can be tricky. Some users reported difficulty in assembling the product, but many said that it was fairly simple as long as you follow the instructions carefully and have an extra set of hands to help with the weight.

The Horizon Fitness T90 comes with a lifetime warranty on the frame, and on the motor; 90 days on parts and labor.

All in all, this is a very good treadmill for walkers who don’t want to spend a ton of money. And, at the price, this makes it an incredible value, particularly when you consider the lifetime warranty on the motor. Very few treadmills in this price category offer a lifetime warranty on the motor.

We particularly recommend this treadmill for senior citizens. The wider walking belt and the Aero soft cushioning beneath the belt make the treadmill safe and comfortable for any walker.

We would probably not recommend this treadmill for the seriously overweight person or the serious endurance runner. First of all, with a weight limit of 275 pounds, it would not accommodate many seriously obese walkers. Secondly, it would likely not last very long from the pound that it would get from long endurance runs.

However, if you’re on a budget, and you don’t need a heavy duty treadmill; this is a great choice. Horizon is part of Johnson Health Tech, one of the world’s largest exercise equipment manufacturers. They are known for making quality products that live up to their promises. In fact, 10% of all their products go through a quality assurance test that includes complete disassembling and reassembling the product for quality before it’s sent out of the factory. This helps ensure that their products are some of the most reliable on the market.

This is definitely one of the best treadmills in its price category. It is also one that is very highly ranked by users. Most people who don’t try to use if for serious running report complete satisfaction with it, aside from the difficult assembly.

Of course, you’ll want to compare the Horizon T90 to other treadmills before you make a purchase. And, even if you plan to buy online, you want to try out any treadmill you’re seriously considering in person before you buy. You’ll be amazed at how much you can tell about a treadmill’s fit for your body, its stability, and how much you like the display just by spending a few minutes walking on one in the store.

If you’re looking at treadmills in the $500-$600 price range, there are some others you might want to consider. In fact, Horizon makes another treadmill, the T91, which is just a few dollars more than the T90, but offers nine pre-set workout programs instead of four and offers a slightly larger horsepower motor, and a slightly wider running deck.

In addition to checking out other Horizon treadmills, there are other companies that make treadmills in this same price range. While you’re evaluating the Horizon T90, take a look at the Merit Fitness 735 T and the Weslo Cadence GTX, as well. By comparing these four treadmills, you’ll get a good idea of what’s available in this price range, and be more easily able to sort out which treadmill is the best fit for your needs.

As you’ve probably already determined, choosing a treadmill for your home can take some time. But, it’s important to give this decision the time and attention it deserves, since it is usually one of the most expensive pieces of equipment you’ll buy for your gym. And, your treadmill is also one of the pieces that gets the most use, so it pays to buy the best treadmill you can afford.
